West Brom Nearing Relegation after Wolves Draw
West Bromwich Albion are teetering on the edge of relegation after drawing 1-1 with visitors Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Hawthorns on Monday, 3 May.
Wolves were the first to open up the scoreboard when Fabio Silva scored with a left loop over goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in the 45th minute.
At the 62nd minute, West Brom’s Mbaye Diagne levelled the score by heading team-mate Conor Townsend’s left-wing cross into the bottom corner of the net.
Despite the draw, the Baggies linger at 19th place on the English Premier League rankings with 26 points – ten points clear of the relegation zone. Sheffield United currently occupy last place with a measly 17 points.
West Brom coach, Sam Allardyce, commented after the match: “We owe it to everyone at the club to win every game we’ve got left and find some fairy dust to stay up. We’re still fighting and we can still get to 38 points. It’d be a miracle if all the other teams above us lose their games.”
